Holy shit
It’s my birthday in a couple of weeks, and this is an early birthday present from my incredible fiancée.
It’s the Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Collection on the Wii, only released in Japan. It contains the original Famicom versions of Dragon Quest I, II and III, and then all three Super Famicom remakes. Also comes with a book containing artwork from the games, manga, and other bits and bobs.
It was extremely limited and is hard to find now unless you’re willing to pay a lot of money. Wily fox that she is, Becca managed to snag the last copy from some website, which is pretty fucking cool.
I’m so blown away that she would buy me something like this. That she would even consider sourcing this for me really means a lot to me. That she actually went to the trouble of buying it for me, it almost doesn’t compute. If you know me at all, you’ll know that I am a huge Dragon Quest fan, and this collection has been something I’ve wanted since I first heard about it last June. Knowing it would be expensive and knowing it would never see the light of day outside of Japan, I kind of resigned myself to never owning a copy. It happens a lot in game collecting. It’s something you just have to put up with.
But now I actually do own a copy of this, and it is without a doubt the crown jewel of my entire 600+ video game collection.
She also bought me a tiny little extra, which you can see in the bottom right photo. It’s a phone charm of one of the many monsters from the series, and the packet is branded 25th anniversary.
I still can’t believe I own this.
Thank you. x
Dragon Quest X trailer from Tokio Game Show, now in high quality - Wii / WiiU
I sincerely hope they don’t bring in the subscription fee outside of Japan. I have never and will never pay to play a game beyond the price I paid for the game itself. This was one of my most anticipated titles of the year, being a huge DQ fan and all, and honestly I was so gutted when it was announced this would be an MMO.
I so badly wanted another DQ game like VIII :’(
This is a piece I did for Scroll Magazine issue 2! It’s a pretty great magazine, very nice paper and great contributors (oh, but the paper.)
All the artists chose an entry in the Dragon Quest series to illustrate. I chose Dragon Quest IX, mainly because it was the only one I’ve played really intensely since the first one. I wanted to showcase the multitude of armor and weapon options you have in the game, as well as the whole crazy angel thing the main character has going on. I like drawing wings I guess?
Check out Scroll 2 here, and thanks to Ray for the cool opportunity!I’ll make prints if people want them.
I love this.
Currently enjoying :)
has been keeping me company during Becca’s seemingly never-ending absence.
